Brief History
Consequent upon the State of Arunachal Pradesh Act, 1986, the Itanagar Bench of the Gauhati High Court was established on 12th August, 2000 as the permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court (the High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh). The then Hon’ble Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India, Dr. A.S. Anand was pleased to inaugurate the Itanagar Permanent Bench of the Gauhati High Court at Naharlagun (located in a picturesque location about 13Kms from the Capital town, Itanagar and 12Kms. away from the Banderdewa Check Post between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh) in presence of His Excellency Shri Arvind Dave, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, Shri Mukut Mithi, Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Hon’ble Mr. Justice S.N. Phukan of the Supreme Court of India, who subsequently inaugurated the Itanagar High Court Bar and Shri Tayum Son and Shri R.H Nabam assumed the office of first President and General Secretary of Gauhati High Court Itanagar Permanent Bench Bar Association (GHCIPBBA).
About Arunachal Pradesh

The Itanagar Bench
The Itanagar permanent Bench was initially located at old Raj Niwas at D’ Sector, Naharlagun a distance of about 12 Kms from Itanagar and 13 kms from Banderdewa bordering, Assam. The High Court Building is under construction at Naharlagun, the permanent site for the High Court. And presently, it has temporarily been shifted to the existing Court Building and Premises of District and Session Court, Yupia, District –Papum Pare Arunachal Pradesh, which is about a distance of 18.8 Kms from Itanagar, and about 10.9 kms from Naharlagun. Since separation of Judiciary in Arunachal Pradesh in 2011, the High court is doing superintendence over all courts and tribunals within Arunachal Pradesh and also control over district courts and courts subordinated thereto.
